I decided I wanted to do a large pop art painting of a truly iconic image on sport. There are so many famous moments in sport, but I wanted to do an instantly recognisable moment.

Muhammad Ali is considered to be the greatest boxer of the past century, winning the heavyweight title three times and Light Heavyweight gold medal in the 1960 Olympics in Rome.

The image I chose to paint was the second bout of Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston in 1965. This is probably one of the most iconic images from boxing. To attempt to capture the violence and brutality of the sport I decided to use different shades of red, a crimson colour in areas.
